A recovery starts when your server tells Hyzl that a person left your paywall.

From the event to the first text

  1. Hyzl receives the paywall event and records when the person left the paywall.
  2. Hyzl starts the recovery timer at that moment by default. Your server can supply a later start time.
  3. Hyzl waits five minutes by default. Later steps remain due from the recovery start time.
  4. Hyzl asks your billing provider, the service that records purchases, whether the person already paid.
  5. If the person remains unpaid and can receive texts, Hazel sends the first text in the Flow, your saved recovery plan.
  6. Hyzl adds Reply STOP to opt out. to the first text that the person receives.
The default Flow schedules two more texts. The second is due one day after recovery starts. The third is due after three days. If one text arrives late, the next consecutive text leaves a safe gap. A call step keeps its original due time. Hyzl repeats the paid check before every text or call step. It does not contact a person when the result is uncertain.

If the person replies

A reply pauses scheduled Flow steps for 24 hours. Hazel answers the person during that conversation. The pause applies to every recovery for that phone number. If the conversation stays quiet for 24 hours, the next step can continue. A due follow-up never interrupts the active conversation.

If the person pays or texts STOP

A confirmed payment ends recovery. Hyzl clears every scheduled text and call for that person. STOP ends recovery and opts out that phone number. Hyzl sends one confirmation and clears every scheduled step.

What ends a Flow

A Flow ends for one person when any of these events occurs:
  • The billing provider confirms any past payment.
  • The person texts STOP, or the phone number already opted out.
  • A later paywall event revokes consent.
  • Every Flow step finishes, so the recovery expires.
  • Hyzl cannot verify payment because the app lacks a usable payment connection or account value to check.
  • Repeated payment checks or message sends fail until Hyzl reaches the retry limit.

What delays a Flow

These conditions delay the next step without ending recovery:
  • A reply pauses the Flow for 24 hours.
  • Take over pauses Hazel and all scheduled steps until you release the conversation.
  • Quiet hours delay a text until the next allowed time.
  • A status other than Live delays recovery. Hyzl checks again in one hour.
  • No active app number delays recovery. Hyzl checks again in one hour.
  • A reached spending cap delays recovery. Hyzl checks again in five minutes.
  • A reached per-day limit delays recovery until the next allowed text window.
  • A temporary payment provider error delays recovery. Hyzl retries after 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, then 6 hours.
An event without a person’s phone number does not start outreach. The event stays received until a later event supplies the number. Change the timing, messages, and delivery limits on the Flow dashboard.
