# Quickstart

> Complete the eight setup steps, send a test text, and turn on recovery for your app.

Complete these eight steps to prepare your app for recovery.

    Open [**Name your app**](https://hyzl.app/app/). Enter a name with no more than 80 characters. Use the name that people will see in texts and hear on calls. Choose your app's timezone, which means its local time.

    Open [**Connect payments**](https://hyzl.app/connect/). Connect either RevenueCat or Stripe so that Hyzl can avoid people who already paid.

  <Step title="Get your number">
    Open [**Get your number**](https://hyzl.app/number/). Choose a United States area code. Wait until the dashboard shows that texts are ready.

  <Step title="Teach Hazel about your app">
    Open [**Teach Hazel about your app**](https://hyzl.app/hazel/). Save facts about your app, plans, and prices. Hazel uses these facts in replies and calls.

  <Step title="Confirm consent">
    Open [**Confirm consent**](https://hyzl.app/consent/). Confirm that your app records each person's permission before Hyzl contacts them.

  <Step title="Install Hyzl">
    Open [**Install Hyzl**](https://hyzl.app/install/). Send a normal paywall event from your server. A paywall event tells Hyzl that someone left your paywall. The checklist shows **Paywall event received** after a non-test event arrives.

  <Step title="Send a test text">
    Open [**Send a test text**](https://hyzl.app/test/). Enter your phone number and first name, then send the test. Expect Hazel to text within one minute. The test uses your app's number and opening text. It skips the wait, payment check, app status, quiet hours, spending cap, and per-day limit. A Flow, your saved recovery plan, never calls a test person. A price and link appear only for a real event. Test texts do not count toward your first 50 people. If the text arrives, select **I got the text**.

    Open [**Add a card**](https://hyzl.app/billing/). Save a card through Stripe. Expect no charge before your 51st counted person. A counted person receives a delivered scheduled text from Flow or Auto mode.

## Go live

Return to [**Home**](https://hyzl.app/home/) after all eight steps are complete. Select **Go live**, then review the confirmation dialog.

The dialog says that real people who leave your paywall without paying will receive texts from Hazel. Your first 50 people are free. From person 51, \$100 a month covers 100 people, then \$1 per person. You can pause recovery at any time.

Select **Confirm and go live** to turn on recovery.

| App status | What it means                                                                                             |
| ---------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Setup      | The dashboard shows **Setup · off**. Finish the required setup before recovery can run.                   |
| Test       | The dashboard shows **Test mode**. Recovery stays off for real people, but tests to your phone still run. |
| Live       | Recovery runs for people who meet your consent and delivery rules.                                        |
| Paused     | Automated recovery stops. Your setup and conversation history remain saved.                               |
